"Mongolia gains trust of many, will work responsibly"
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Minister of Foreign Affairs L.Purevsuren last Friday called a press conference in the “Chingis Khaan” international airport to highlight the election of the United Nations Human Rights Council’s (UNHRC) membership for 2015-2018.
Our country has gained a victory, "it has been elected the member of the UNHRC", he said. "Mongolia started working for this achievement in times of my predecessor Mr L.Bold. The victory is not only his but also of many other diplomats' great efforts and contribution," he stressed. This is also an expression of Mongolia's reputation at the international arena, he said. In terms of significance, the UNHRC member election is considered the second biggest one after the UN Security Council’s election, he added.
Among those who had run for five quotes in the Asia-Pacific division, Mongolia took votes of 172 countries out of 192. The United Arab Emirates collected 159 votes, Kyrgyzstan--147, the Republic of Korea--136, the Philippines--113. "Mongolia has gained the largest number of votes, which means that the world countries put a trust in Mongolia,” Purevsuren underlined.
The FM also reminded all that Mongolia intends to run for the 2022 election of the Non-Permanent Membership of the UN Security Council. “A success is to directly depend on our efforts within the UNHR’s tenure," he noted.
"We are provided with opportunities to contribute to the international community’s actions for human rights and to work at the decision-making level. Mongolia’s responsibilities and duties will increase, and a number of countries to relate with Mongolia will rise as well,” Purevsuren underlined.
After this he briefed about his official visit to Italy paid October 23-24.
