Mongolia at general debate of UNGA’s First Committee
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Representing Mongolia, director of the Department of Multilateral Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ms G.Battungalag gave a speech at a general debate of the First Committee on Disarmament and International Security held October 9 within the 2015 UN General Assembly running in New York, USA.
In her speech, expressing a position of Mongolia, Ms Battungalag mentioned that the UN has confirmed its vital role in ensuring global peace and security and maintaining international legal principles. Ensuring the world’s peace and security has become a priority of nations, she added.
As a country with the nuclear weapon-free status, Mongolia steadily supports goals on disarmament and proliferation of nuclear weapons, Ms Battungalag noted and affirmed her country’s position about significance of running active talks on disarmament, fulfilling contracts on proliferation of nuclear weapons as well as the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and strengthening efforts of the member states for realizing the treaty.
In conjunction with a decision of Mongolia on maintaining a permanent status of neutrality, Ms Battungalag pointed out that Mongolia representatives are formulating a draft resolution on the issue to be submitted to the UN General Assembly, and hoped the UN members will back this resolution.
