Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. The EU delegates led by the EU
International Partnerships Acting Director for Asia Jean-Louis Ville are
visiting Mongolia these days. The delegation had a meeting with representatives
of the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI), EuroChamber
Mongolia and trade cluster companies and exchanged views on previous joint projects
towards support of trades and works to be further implemented.
Representing over 100 members of the Mongolian sea buckthorn cluster, Mongolian Cosmetics cluster, Mongolian Eco Leather Export Cluster, Mongolian Pine Kernel Cluster and Mongolian Eco Textile Export Cluster, the MNCCI exchanged views on the achievements and challenges and expressed willingness to study from best practices and experiences of international clusters.
The delegation also became acquainted with ongoing projects in Mongolia. Noting that Mongolia is one of the seven countries that meet the requirements of the Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP +) and fully benefit from it, the delegation stressed the need to develop and diversify production and create infrastructure at a time when Mongolia's foreign trade is developing.
Mongolia entered to the E.U.Generalized System of
Preferences in 2005, and it became eligible to export 7200 types of products
tax free to the EU market. In the framework of trade-related assistance, the
TRAM project supports the export of clusters and introduces quality standards.
For instance, ‘Uvs Chatsargana’, seabuckthorn berries from Uvs aimag, has been
registered in the EU as the first Protected Geographical Indication from
Mongolia. The registration will make it advantageous to be protected in the EU
member states from imitation and usurpation and to create jobs.
In addition, the delegation informed that it plans to implement the next phase of its Trade-Related Assistance for Mongolia (TRAM) Project.
