Revenue from rail transport increases by 8.3 percent

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. In the first 5 months of 2021, 13.4 million tonnes of freight were carried by railway transport and increased by 1.4 million tonnes (11.9%) compared to the same period of the previous year.


This increase was mainly due to 1.0 million tonnes (24.3%) increase in domestic freight and 288.8 thousand tonnes (25.8%) increase in import freight.


In May 2021, carried freight from railway transport reached 2.6 million tonnes, decreased by 115.1 thousand tonnes (4.2%) compared to the previous month.


In the first 5 months of 2021, 83.1% of carried freight by railway transport was mining freight, 11.8% was construction materials, 1.1% was food products, 0.9% was agricultural products, 0.9% was black iron, 0.3% was wood products and 2.0% was other products.


In the first 5 months of 2021, no passengers were transported by rail due to the public emergency readiness regime as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.


In the first 5 months of 2021, the revenue from railway transport reached MNT 326.8 billion, increased by MNT 24.9 billion or (8.3%) compared to the same period of the previous year. This increase was mainly due to increases in the transportation of mining products, namely, coal, flours and spar concentrates, construction material and food consumer products. In May 2021, the revenue reached MNT 68.9 billion, increased by MNT 3.1 billion (4.7%) compared to the previous month.
