Options for post pandemic business recovery for MSME in Mongolia
The impact of COVID-19 on businesses in Mongolia has been severe depending on size, sector, and other characteristics, but smaller businesses were hit harder than larger ones. Micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) are one of the most dynamic sectors in Mongolia. This sector comprises 77% of total registered business entities; 72% of the total workforce; 17.8% of Gross Domestic Product; and 2.3% of total exports. Women make up a large share of MSME entrepreneurs in Mongolia.

Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi submits bond issuance request to Mongolian Stock Exchange
On March 5, 2021, “Erdenes Tavantolgoi” JSC submitted a request to Mongolian Stock Exchange to issue the highest amount of up to 2 trillion MNT /as well as USD/ bonds in the financial market for the implementation of major projects such as construction of strategically important railways, coal processing and thermal power plants.

Oyu Tolgoi LLC pays up MNT 649 billion Tax Act by Mongolian Tax Authority
After completing an audit of Oyu Tolgoi LLC’s 2016-2018 tax returns, the General Department of Taxation – the tax authority of Mongolia, on December 24, 2020, issued a tax claim for a total of MNT 649.4 billion (approximately US$228 million) that is due to be paid in cash to the Government of Mongolia.

BoM purchases 643.5 kg precious metals in February
In February 2021, the Bank of Mongolia purchased 643.5 kg of precious metal, raising the BoM’s total precious metal purchase of 2021 to 2 tons. The figure shows that the amount of precious metal purchase increased by 309 kg compared with the same period of previous year.

Performing loans drop by 9.2 percent compared to previous year
At the end of January 2021, the total amount of outstanding loan to enterprises and individuals amounted to MNT 17.2 trillion, increased by MNT 25.0 billion (0.1%) from the previous month, but decreased by MNT 844.7 billion (4.7%) from the same period of the previous year. In the total outstanding loans, MNT 8.7 trillion (50.6%) was individual loans.
