Mongolia and Japan to Cooperate on the 603rd Grassroots Human Security Project

Ulaanbaatar, March 19, 2024. /MONTSAME/. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mongolia Igawahara Masaru, and Governor of Gobi-Altai aimag O. Amgalanbaatar, signed Mongolia's 603rd Grant-Aid Agreement under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects of the Government of Japan on March 15, 2024.


This is the 20th project implemented under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project in Gobi-Altai aimag. It will build a one-stop service center in Yesunbulag soum to combat domestic violence. With a fund of USD 203 thousand, this project aims at addressing the limitations of the current center's capacity to effectively serve those in need. The new building will provide a safe and private space for domestic violence victims to seek assistance and support.


Ambassador Igawahara Masaru expressed confidence that following the completion of the project, the locals of Gobi-Altai aimag should take responsibility for the building, ensuring its proper care and efficient organization. Additionally, the Ambassador heard that Gobi-Altai aimag's pristine nature is home to rare Gobi bears like "Mazaalai" and Wild Bactrian camels. Also, Mr. Igawaru Masaru shared his view on confidence in the natural environment thriving in the future.


Ambassador Igawahara Masaru expressed confidence that, upon completion of the project, the residents of Gobi-Altai aimag would take responsibility for the building's upkeep and ensure its efficient management. The Ambassador also mentioned that Gobi-Altai aimag's pristine natural environment is home to rare species, such as the "Mazaalai" Gobi bear and Wild Bactrian camels. Furthermore, Mr. Igawahara Masaru expressed optimism for the future of this thriving natural environment.


Governor O. Amgalanbaatar expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of Gobi-Altai aimag towards the government and people of Japan for their assistance in Mongolia's challenges, such as dzud, domestic violence, child protection, and support for children displaced from their homes. Additionally, the Governor noted that once the new facility is operational, the results of the project will be reported periodically.
