Mongolia Aims to Develop Adventure Tourism

Ulaanbaatar, November 8, 2023 /MONTSAME. Representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia, the Natura Conservancy (TNC) NGO, the JICA representative office in Mongolia, and the Mongolian Tourism Association met with Shannon Stowell, CEO of the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) on November 6, 2023.
"Before the pandemic, Mongolia welcomed more than 577,000 tourists, generating an economic benefit of USD 607 million in GDP. As the Mongolian Government declared 2023-2025 the "Years to Visit Mongolia", we strive to implement the program and welcome one million tourists. Currently, Mongolia has received approximately 600,000 tourists, bringing in one billion dollars in revenue to the country's economy. In the future, we are ready to cooperate with ATTA for the development of outdoor adventure tourism," said Bat-Erdene Bat-Ulzii, Minister of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia.
The participants exchanged views on several issues, including the development of adventure tourism, which is environmentally friendly and sustainable tourism, in Mongolia, the organization of the World Conference on Adventure Tourism, and the training of specialists in this field.
According to the Ministry of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia, environmentally friendly and sustainable tourism is a viable approach to establishing a sustainable financing mechanism for nature conservation, as exemplified by the Conservation Trust Fund spearheaded by The Nature Conservancy.
