Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Stresses the Importance of Maritime Access for Landlocked Countries

Bishkek, October 26, 2023 /MONTSAME/. Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai delivered a speech at the extended Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States, which is taking place in Bishkek, the Kyrgyz Republic, on October 25-26, 2023.
Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene stated that Mongolia always pursues a peace-loving, open, independent, and multi-pillar foreign policy. As an Observer State of the SCO, Mongolia aims to closely cooperate with the SCO, its members, and other observer states and to efficiently and actively participate in regional multilateral trade and economic activities.
At the Meeting, the Mongolian Premier affirmed eagerness to expand relations and cooperation between Mongolia and the SCO participants and to develop mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, investment, food and agriculture, mining, energy, industrialization, transport logistics, port infrastructure, humanity, environment, tourism, and information technology.
Furthermore, the Head of the Mongolian Government Oyun-Erdene introduced Mongolia's implementation of a consistent open policy to facilitate transport conditions and develop maritime transportation under the "New Revival Policy," the first phase of the Mongolian Government's "Vision-2050" long-term development policy, to be implemented over the next ten years.
In this context, Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene urged the Meeting participants to pay more attention to the transportation problems facing landlocked countries. He also said that the sea does not belong only to maritime countries, but that access to it is significant for the sustainable development of all countries.
Mongolian Premier Oyun-Erdene noted the activities carried out as part of trilateral cooperation between Mongolia, Russia, and China and emphasized that major projects outlined in the "Mongolia-Russia-China Economic Corridor Program," such as upgrading the Central Railway Corridor, establishing the eastern and western railway corridors, and constructing highways and gas pipelines connecting the three countries, could be coordinated with SCO activities.
Representatives from the Russian Federation, the People’s Republic of China, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the Republic of India, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Belarus and Turkmenistan are participating in the Meeting.
