Since the elevation of the bilateral relationship to the “strategic partnership” level in 2015 during the historic visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mongolia has become an important partner in “Act East Policy,” evidenced by India’s support of several development partnership projects in Mongolia.

It was the first physical interaction of the JWG since the Covid pandemic and was co-chaired by Brigadier General Gankhuyag Davagdorj, State Secretary, Ministry of Defence & Director General in the Indian Ministry of Defence, Dr. Ajay Kumar. Expressing satisfaction at the growing ties between India & Mongolia, both sides resolved to intensify and expand the defense cooperation. The Indian side also agreed to continue participating in the multilateral peacekeeping “Khan Quest” and to hold bilateral military exercise “Nomadic Elephant” at mutually convenient dates in the near future and to assist in the capacity building of the MAF officers.
