Representatives of Mongolian Government Participated in COP15 of Convention on Biodiversity

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/.  Delegation of the Government of Mongolia led by Ambassador of Mongolia to Canada Ariunbold Yadmaa and the Environment and Green Development Policy Advisor to the President of Mongolia Batkhuu Nyam-Osor participated in the High-Level Segment of the Biological Diversity Convention COP15 held from 15 to 17 December 2022 in Montreal, Canada.


The High-Level Segment meeting was opened by Huang Runqiu, the Minister of Ecology and Environment of China, followed by a video message from Xi Jinping, the President of China. The high-level representatives— President of the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly Csaba Korosi, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina J. Mohammed, Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Canada, the Honorable Steven Guilbeault, Premier of Quebec the Honorable Francois Legault and Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity Elizabeth M.Mrema— also delivered speeches respectively.


During the COP 15, Parties to the Convention continued the negotiations held in Kunming, China in 2021. They emphasized sustainable financing in favor of achieving the goal of conserving 30 percent of the world’s biodiversity by 2030.


On 16 December, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism co-hosted a side event on biodiversity and climate with “The Natural Conservancy” which focused on discussing the issues of Mongolia’s untouched nature and ecosystem. Batkhuu Nyam-Osor, Advisor to the President of Mongolia on Environment and Green development policy, met with Dirk Brinkman, President of the Canadian “Brinkman Reforestation” company, and exchanged views on technical assistance and cooperation for the implementation of the “One billion Tree” initiative.
