Chairman of State Great Khural visits Turkish Constitutional Court

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Chairman of the State Great Khural G.Zandanshatar, who is paying an official visit to the Republic of Turkey, met President of the Constitutional Court of Turkey Zühtü Arslan on October 14, 2022.


At the beginning of the meeting, Chairman of the Great Khural of Mongolia G.Zandanshatar emphasized that Mr. Zuhtu Arslan gave an interesting speech on the Constitution of Mongolia during the Fifth Meeting of the Asian Society in Ulaanbaatar.


Furthermore, the Chairman of the State Great Khural expressed his satisfaction with the intensification of cooperation between the Constitutional Courts and the courts of the two countries by having regular mutual visits, meetings, and exchange of experience. Then he expressed confidence in the further expansion and strengthening of cooperation in the field of scientific research.



At the meeting, representatives of the Mongolian Parliament exchanged views on the results of the amendments made to the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey and got acquainted with the activities of the Constitutional Court.


President of the Constitutional Court of Turkey Zühtu Arslan expressed that he is honored by the visit of the Mongolian Speaker and representatives of the State Great Khural and emphasized that the country is one of the countries with the oldest history in establishing a Constitutional Court. While introducing the activities of the Constitutional Court, he expressed that he would support Mongolia-Turkey cooperation on this matter.


The Constitutional Court of Turkey was established in 1961 and examines the constitutionality of other laws and regulations. Other than that, the constitutional amendment of 2010 changed the composition, powers, and structure of the court and created a system for citizens to approach the Constitutional Court independently. Under the 2017 amendment, the number of Justices has been reduced to fifteen, and the Constitutional Court is vested with the power to examine any claim raised on the unconstitutionality in the form or substance of the Presidential-decrees. In addition, the Constitutional Court has the right to dismiss any political party that violates the Constitution.
