200 marmots reintroduced in Sukhbaatar aimagEnvironment
Sukhbaatar/MONTSAME/. The Environment and Tourism Department of Sukhbaatar aimag organized a reintroduction of marmots in the aimag. In specific, a total of 200 Mongolian marmots aged 1-4, 59 males and 141 females, have been brought from Khustai National Park to seven locations of five soums in the aimag. The work, which took MNT 76 million, was financed by the Local Development Fund, projects for environmental and rehabilitation as well as by community donations.
The work was carried out in collaboration with professional organizations with a purpose to maintain an ecological balance and preserve nature.
Marmot reintroduction is essential in maintaining ecosystem balance, reducing soil degradation and desertification, ensuring air exchange in the soil, and regenerating vegetation and plants.
