German Ambassador presents book on Kharkhorum archeological research

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On November 18, Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of Mongolia E.Odbayar, Education, Science, and Technology Policy Advisor to the President of Mongolia Ch.Lodoiravsal held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Mongolia Jörn Rosenberg and representatives of the joint Mongolian-German archeological research team that conducted research works in Orkhon Valley.

 

During the meeting, the book, ‘Karakorum’ - which published the results of the joint Mongolian-German archeological expedition conducted in Kharkhorum over the course of 20 years under the auspices of the two countries’ Presidents, was presented. 

 

The joint archeological research in the Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape, a UNESCO registered World Heritage site, was launched during the visit of former German President Roman Herzog and its 20th anniversary was marked in 2020. On its occasion, the ‘Karakorum’ book was published in order to promote the achievements and results of the research to the public.

 

 

Advisor to the President E.Odbayar congratulated the research team for implementing a project of such importance, and relayed the expression of gratitude from President U.Khurelsukh. 

 

Advisor Ch.Lodoiravsal highlighted that making the results of the 20-year-long archeological research publicly available is highly significant in further research. 


Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Mongolia Jörn Rosenberg noted the importance of the research, which has served as a core part of Mongolian-German cooperation, as how it was carried out under the auspices of the two countries’ presidents since 2000.

 

The meeting was attended by excavation leaders of the German side Dr. Christina Franken and Dr. Hendrik Rohland, Head of the Department of Archeology and Anthropology at the School of Arts and Sciences of the National University of Mongolia, Dr. U.Erdenebat, researcher at the Institute of Archeology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, Dr. T.Batbayar, researcher, Dr. Kh.Ariunchimeg, and First Secretary at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to Mongolia Michael Rossbach.
