Transport Minister meets JICA Chief Representative

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Minister of Road and Transport Development L.Khaltar had a meeting with Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Mongolia Tamura Eriko on September 9. At the meeting, JICA presented the current progress of the baseline study on strengthening road and transport infrastructure in Ulaanbaatar and the study on the development plan of New Zuunmod city to be built near the Chinggis Khaan airport.


The sides discussed at length projects they can implement based on the studies, including highway construction and upgrade project, railway signal upgrade project, traffic control system improvement project, public transport system project, and other projects on a light rail network between Ulaanbaatar and Chinggis Khaan airport, logistics center, residential area development, and a free economic zone.


At the meeting, Minister L.Khaltar also showed an interest in exporting Mongolian mineral products to Japan via Russia and China. He then informed the Chief Representative that talks are underway with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to start trial transport, asking for JICA’s support and cooperation in involving Japanese companies in the plan.
