By-poll in Songinokhairkhan District scheduled on October 10

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. During March 18 plenary session of the State Great Khural, the Mongolian Parliament, adopted an amendment to the parliamentary resolution No. 40, which re-schedules the poll day for the by-election in the 28th constituency of the 2020 parliamentary elections in Songinokhairkhan district of Ulaanbaatar city.
30 parliament members of 51.5 percent of the 68 members in attendance voted in favor of approving the new date for the by-election on October 10, 2021.
In December 2020, the parliament decided to organize the by-election in the 28th election constituency in the Songinokhairkhan district on the same day as the eighth quadrennial presidential election of 2021, which is scheduled on June 9, 2021.
Head of the General Election Commission P.Delgernaran presented at today’s meeting about regulatory issues likely to arise when organizing the two elections together on the same day as well as lack of technical capacity, such as polling and voter registration machines.
Member of Parliament D.Sumiyabazar was elected from the 28th constituency in June 2020 in the eighth parliamentary elections from the ruling Mongolian People’s Party together with MPs N.Uchral and P.Anujin. He was dismissed from the legislative position at his own request on October 23, 2020, making necessary to organize a by-poll in his constituency to fill the office that has become vacant. Sumiyabazar has been serving as Mayor of Ulaanbaatar since October 26, 2020.
