Development of new National Library building 85 percent complete
SocietyUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture G.Erdenebat, Director of the Department of Culture and Enlightenment of Ministry of Culture D.Narantsetseg, and library policy coordination analyst B.Bayaraa have visited the construction site of the National Library, checking on the preparations to move to the new library building and the library management plan.
The construction of the 11-story, 9948.2 cubic meter library building in 7thsub-district of Sukhbaatar district is 85 percent complete.
The National Library will have 450 seats and feature culture and education sections designed for persons with vision impairment and disabilities. Moreover, with the introduction of technological advancements brought by the information age, books and publications will be scanned into digital format to make it easier and faster to obtain information.
There are plans to develop cultural and creative industries through exhibition and meeting halls, mini theater, book and stationery stores, and photocopying, printing, and scanning services. The old building of the National Library will be used as a library of Mongolian studies and a place for restoring and digitizing manuscripts and books.
