No disruptions in food supply during lockdown

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. Ya. Sodbaatar, Head of the State Emergency Commission and Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia, gave press information on the present situation and decisions made at the meeting of a Council of the Head of the State Emergency Commission, held today, November 14.


Ya. Sodbaatar said, “Today, 27 young children of 23 families, who are classmates of a 4-year old child who tested positive for the coronavirus, have been placed under isolation with their family members at the Central Military Hospital for testing.  They are now being involved in accelerated testing for COVID-19.”


He added, “In connection with the strict lockdown, required measures are being taken to prevent food supply disruptions. Within this framework, we pay great importance to increase the meat supply. As of today, food markets and supermarkets have been supplied with more than 2200 head of livestock and 407 tons of meat. Since strict lockdown enforcement, the citizens have bought twice as much food and meat as usual.


The number of vulnerable people and households was surveyed, and monthly benefits for buying foods and other necessities were transferred to the banking accounts of 242 thousand people.


In addition, more works are under progress to provide dormitory students with food packages, improve disinfection in public transport, increase the number of buses on each route and shorten the distance between buses' drives to reduce the number of passengers to a minimum level.”
