Non-performing loans in banking system amounted to MNT 2.0 trillion

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. At the end of September 2020, the total amount of outstanding loan to entities and individuals amounted to MNT 17.3 trillion, decreased by MNT 30.9 billion (0.2%) from the previous month, and by MNT 802.6 billion (4.4%) from the same period of the previous year. In the total outstanding loans, MNT 8.9 trillion (51.5%) was individual loans.

The performing loans reached to MNT 14.2 trillion at the end of September 2020, decreased by MNT 46.5 billion (0.3%) from the previous month, and by MNT 0.9 trillion (6.3%) from the same period of the previous year. The performing loans make up to 82.0% of the total loans, and decreased by 1.7 percentage points from the same period of the previous year.

At the end of September 2020, the principals in arrears amounted to MNT 1.1 trillion, increased by MNT 11.0 billion (1.0%) from the previous month, and by MNT 161.5 billion (16.4%) from the same period of the previous year. The principals in arrears make up to 6.6% of the total loans, increased by 1.2 percentage points from the same period of the previous year.

At the end of September 2020, the non-performing loans in the banking system amounted to MNT 2.0 trillion, increased by MNT 4.6 billion (0.2%) from the previous month while it is decreased of MNT 1.8 billion (0.1%) from the previous year. The non- performing loans in the banking system make up to 11.4% of the total loans, increased by 0.5 percentage points from the same period of the previous year.

At the end of August 2020, the loans from commercial banks to individual amounted to MNT 8.7 trillion, increased by MNT 106.9 billion (1.3%) from the previous month while it is decreased by MNT 629.6 billion (6.8%) from the same period of the previous year.

For the total individual loans, 41.4 percent was loan for business activities, 33.7 percent was salary loans, 8.4 percent was herder loans, 6.6 percent was deposit backed loans, 3.1 percent was car loans, 2.9 percent was credit card loans, 1.3 percent was pension loans, 0.8 percent was household  consumption loans and 1.7 percent was other loans. For the MNT 8.0 billion performing individual loans, 10.7 percent was loans with terms up to 1 year, 57.5 percent was loans with terms from 1-5 years and 31.8 percent was loans with terms of 5 and more years.

The principal arrears in commercial banks and Mongolian Mortgage Corporation /MMC/ reached MNT 4.8 trillion at the end of August 2020, increased by MNT 70.8 billion (1.5%) from previous month, and by MNT 289.7 (6.4%) billion from the same period of the previous year.
