The number of births reaches 18.7 thousand in first quarter of 2020

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. At the national level, the number of
births reached 18.7 thousand, in the first quarter of 2020, increased by 311
(1.7%) compared to the same period of the previous year. Of the total live
births, 18.0 thousand (96.4%) babies were early initiation of breast-feeding,
increased by 265 (1.5%) from the same period of the previous year. Of the total
live births, 163 (0.9%) were congenital abnormalities and 889 (4.8%) were in
weight less than 2500 grams. The stillbirth rate was 5.4 per 1000 total births.
In March 2020, 6688 were born alive, showing an increase of
973 (17.0%) from the previous month. Of the total live births, 6435 (96.2%)
were early initiation of breast-feeding, increased by 897 (16.2%) from the previous month. Of the total live
births, 70 (1.0%) were congenital abnormalities and 302 (4.5%) were less than
2500 grams in weight. The stillbirth rate was 6 per 1000 total births.
According to the ‘Electronic birth registration’ by the
Ministry of Health, 6319 mothers who delivered a child, and 6399 newborns were
issued registration numbers in March 2020. From total newborns, there were 3201
boys and 3198 girls, and 157 twins. The
average weight of newborns was 3413 grams, and the average height of newborns
was 50.8 cm.
