Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On March 5, the Ulaanbaatar city
government handed over two garbage trucks purchased with local funds to
Chingeltei district.
The Mitsubishi Canter garbage trucks are designed to transport
sorted waste and each has a capacity of 1.5 tons. According to S.Arigun, Head
of Waste Management Department at Ulaanbaatar Mayor's Office, the two trucks
will transport sorted waste of kindergartens, schools, and offices in
Chingeltei district to waste recycling plants on a fixed schedule and more special
trucks like those will be further put into service across the capital city.
Member of the Capital City Council Ts.Baatarkhuu said a total of more than 300 garbage trucks are currently in service in Ulaanbaatar, but they transport unsorted waste directly to dumpsites. "Approaches like this will enable us to recycle 50 percent of the one million tons of waste Ulaanbaatar yearly generates."
