Mongolia boxing team to compete in Olympic qualifying tournament
SportsUlaanbaatar / MONTSAME / On February 26, the national boxing
team of Mongolia arrived in Amman, the capital of Jordan, where the Asian and
Oceania boxing qualifying event for this year's Olympic Games in Tokyo will be
held on March 3-11.
Initially, a venue of the qualifying tournament was Chinese
Wuhan, scheduled on February 3-14, but due to the outbreak of coronavirus, it
was moved to Amman. For those who cannot get into the 2020 Games through
the competition in Amman, there will be another chance
for qualification – to be held in May in Paris.
The Secretary-General of the Mongolian Boxing Federation Ts.
Batnasan and senior coach D. Batsuren are heading the national team that
comprises of 22 athletes.
Mongolian boxers participated in the Olympic Games 11 times / 1972.1976.1980, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 /, winning seven Olympic medals: one gold medal by E. Badar-Uugan, two silver medals by P. Serdamba and N. Tugstsogt, and four bronze medals by N. Enkhbat, N. Bayarsaikhan, U. Munkh-Erdene, and D. Otgondalai.
