Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. As the Parliament yesterday approved a draft resolution on
amending the Appendix of Resolution, submitted by the government, National Geological
Office will be re-established.
Having a status of implementing agency under the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry, the National Geological Office will have functions to discover mineral resources by conducting thorough researches of subsoil minerals regardless of mineral types with geology, geochemistry, and geophysical methods. Moreover, the office will work to have them registered at the state database, carry out state-funded geological researches, make mineral analysis, build national geology and minerals database, enrich it and serve interested people with information except for classified documents.
During the discussion, Minister of Mining and
Heavy Industry D.Sumiyabazar stressed that state policy and control on the
mining and geological sector have weakened since the official dissolution of
the National Geological Office in the 1990s. "Thus, it necessitates fixing up irresponsible
mining and disorderly condition that existed over the past 30 years in the
country, by the state policy and taking optimal and proper actions," said the Minister.
