Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. The State Great Khural (Parliament) of Mongolia and the Inter-Parliamentary Union are jointly organizing the Second Regional Seminar for the Asia-Pacific Region Parliaments on Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on May 27-28 in Ulaanbaatar.
The seminar aims to further
define the opportunities and challenges facing parliaments in the Asia-Pacific
region in exercising their role in SDGs implementation. It will provide a
platform to share experiences, facilitate mutual learning on meeting the SDGs,
engage in comprehensive discussions and get acquainted with good practices in
developing effective parliamentary strategies for SDGs implementation.
More than 100 participants
from over 30 IPU-member or non-member Asia and the Pacific countries and
international organizations will attend the seminar.
The State Great Khural of
Mongolia previously hosted such international and regional forum and seminars
three times. In June, 2018 it organized a conference titled ’Strengthening the
capacity of parliamentarians for the achievement of the sustainable development
goals’.
In 1962, Mongolia joined the
IPU, which is a global organization with 179 member parliaments. Currently, MPs
N.Oyundari, B.Saranchimeg and N.Uchral are working as members at IPU standing
committees.
