‘Microbes on the move’ conference to be held in Ulaanbaatar and Bishkek

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ ‘Microbes on the Move’ academic conference to be organized in Ulaanbaatar and Bishkek during May 18-28 under the ‘Dairy cultures’ research project of the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History.

‘Dairy cultures’ investigates the unique biological and cultural relationships between humans, livestock and microbes with aims to expand the the public’s understanding about dairy products. The project is focused on Mongolia’s ancient and modern culture of dairying, traditional technologies and experiences.

Within the framework of the project, a travelling conference themed ‘Microbes on the Move- Dairying Diversity and Food Sovereignty on the Eurasian Steppes’ will be organized in Ulaanbaatar on May 18-22 and Bishkek on May 23-28.


In addition to the scholars and researcher of dairy industry, herders and dairy producers of Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan will gather at the conference to discuss the historical and archaeological aspects of dairying in Eurasian Steppes and modern tendencies of dairy production and farming.
