Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ Today, members of Mongolian Parliament headed by Speaker M.Enkhbold and former members of then-People’s Great Khural, who contributed to adopt new democratic Constitution, paid tribute to the Monument of Chinggis Khaan and laid wreath at the Statue of D.Sukhbaatar on occasion of the 27th anniversary of the adoption of democratic Constitution of Mongolia.

Mongolia adopted its Constitution in 1924, 1940, 1960 and 1992. The 1992 Constitution was so distinctive because it was adopted during Mongolia’s transitional period from socialism into democracy.

The Constitution was adopted on January 13, 1992 following a discussion of 75 days. Coming into effect on February 12, 1992, it was amended in 1999 and 2001. The new constitution established a representative democracy in Mongolia, guaranteeing freedom, religion, rights, travel, expression, unalienable rights, government setup, election cycle, and other matters. It consists of a preamble followed by six chapters divided into 70 articles.
