International olympiad winners awarded

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. In compliance with the decision made by Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports Ts.Tsogzolmaa, awards are to be presented to students who successfully participated in international olympiads starting from this year. Thus, the students, who had great success in international olympiads, received their certificates and awards yesterday on December 20.

The awards were presented by Advisor to the Minister B.Ganbat, Head of the General Education Policy Department at the Ministry T.Nyam-Ochir and Expert Ts.Chimedlkham. Previously, students, who had success in international olympiads, were given the right to enroll in any university they wanted without having to take the exams. This year, however, the students, who had phenomenal success in international olympiads of information science, chemistry, biology, mathematics and physics as well as those, who became champions of world memory championships, were awarded with a total of MNT 34 million.

Since Mongolian students began to participate in international mathematics olympiad in 1967, it is the first time to have 16 students out of the over 20 students who participated, to win a medal in all the events they participated. Furthermore, it is also the first time to have all 6 members of the team to win medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad.

The students and the teachers, who participated in the olympiads, highlighted that one of the main factors of the great achievement was that, this was the first time their expenses were funded by the Ministry. According to the officials, the Ministry is to continue on funding the expenses of the students participating in international olympiads as well as the costs to prepare them in Mongolia.
