15.1 million head of cattle to be sold during winter

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A total of 17.9 percent of livestock, 15.1 million head of cattle, is planned to be sold nationwide during 2018-2019 winter season. The local authorities have submitted proposals to trade 5.5 million head for domestic needs and 9.6 million on the market.
There are 52 meat processing factories in Mongolia, with slaughter capacity of 26.6 thousand sheep and goats and 6 thousand cattle per day. Meat factories operate only over 130 days in autumn and winter, depending on cattle fattening and the sale season. According to this, the domestic meat factories have the capacity to slaughter a total of 4.2 million head of cattle, of which 790.4 thousand is large cattle and 3.4 million is small cattle.
