International Steppe Marathon features barefoot half marathon and ultra trail

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The 22nd Mongolian International Steppe Marathon was organized on August 19 under the theme ‘Mongolian International Steppe Marathon - Bogd Khan Ultra Trail 50km’. It was jointly organized by the Mongolian Athletics Federation and Showa Holdings of Japan.
More than 1000 Mongolian runners and over 200 runners from Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Europe and the Americas including children, youth, disabled people and amateurs took part in the marathon.
This year’s event featured Ultra trail and barefoot half marathon for the first time. Apart from those, runners participated in the steppe marathon in distances of 3, 5 and 10 kilometers.
In the Bogd Khan Ultra Trail, Kouta Araki, Ch.Narantsatsral, D.Damdinjav and J.Enkhtaivan claimed the first place in their respective categories of age and gender and received an invitation to participate in the Trail World Championships.
As for the 21km barefoot half marathon, D.Gantulga of Hilchin sports club and B.Munkhzaya of the Aldar sports club won the first place in their respective categories, followed by J.Otgonbayar and D.Badamkhatan. First place winners of the half marathon received a 'racing horse' as a prize.
