UNDAF 2017-2021 for Mongolia implementation discussed

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Joint UN and Government of Mongolia Steering Committee meeting to review implementation of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) 2017-2021 for Mongolia in 2017 was held on June 19 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Representatives of relevant ministries, agencies and UN system and specialized agencies participated at the meeting.
Opening the meeting State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia D.Davaasuren said “I believe that the projects and programs being implemented under the UNDAF 2017-2021 will contribute to achieving Mongolia's mid and long-term goals and the Sustainable Development Goals.” He also asked to support the Government's efforts to ensure the effective implementation of social development policies while overcoming financial and economic difficulties, and not to reduce the scope, level and funding of UN agencies in Mongolia.
UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Ms. Beate Trankmann noted that the main principle of the UN projects and programs in Mongolia is based on the Sustainable Development-2030 program that promotes ‘leaving no one behind’ theme and focuses on building more accessible, fair and sustainable development. She also stressed the importance of the 2017 report of the working group to provide policy advice and support to achieving sustainable development goals. Ms. Beate Trankmann also emphasized the need to focus on development policy regulation, coordinating the state budget with the priorities of the Sustainable Development Concept 2030 and establishing a control system to report on progress.
The 2017 implementation report for the three priorities of UNDAF 2017-2021 summary:
1. UN and ADB joint working group in charge of intensifying the SDG and policy support worked to promote inclusive growth and sustainable management of natural resource, made a report, developed the Action Plan for Sustainable Development in Ulaanbaatar, indicators to measure the implementation and financing strategy. In addition, a draft National Program on Reducing Forest Degradation and Scarcity has been developed, concept of Green Economic Development Strategy, jobs and procurement were introduced and progress in promoting innovation in agriculture, improving food safety standards and hygiene were made.
2. Social welfare, quality and equal access to social services, capacity, promotion of reproductive health, maternal and child health protection were improved and the Law on Food Supplements for Infants and Toddlers was adopted.
3. Law to Combat Domestic Violence entered into force to increase public participation, a survey was conducted under the Combating Gender-Based Violence in Mongolia project and the first Law on Promotion of Youth Development was adopted.
Staff members and Terms of Reference of the Joint Steering Committee were discussed and approved at the meeting.
