Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A foreign ministerial visit is being paid from India to Mongolia after 42 years.

Minister of Foreign Affairs D.Tsogtbaatar made the above remark on April 25 at a joint press briefing alongside Sushma Swaraj, Minister of External Affairs of India, who is visiting Mongolia on April 24-26, following their official talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

While emphasizing the importance of the foreign ministerial visit in strengthening the strategic partnership between Mongolia and India, the Foreign Minister appreciated the long-standing relations and spiritual bond the two countries share. “India is an important third neighbor of Mongolia. The spiritual connections between our two countries became the foundation for our strategic partnership,” he said.

For her part, Minister Sushma Swaraj stated how her visit will give stimulus to the current state of bilateral relationship, building on the outcome of the historic visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Mongolia in 2015. “Indians know of Mongolia by the powerful emperors and its Buddhist culture. Not only are India and Mongolia strategic partners, they are also strong spiritual neighbors. There is a potential for broadening bilateral relations in economic, commercial and investment areas,” she said.

The Indian Minister touched upon the agreement reached regarding the intensification of the oil refinery project, saying that the project will facilitate a constant exchange between officials from both sides during its implementation. She named new spheres of bilateral cooperation such as infrastructure, energy, services, drug manufacturing, information technology and knowledge-based economy, expressing hope that Mongolian businesses take interest in projects in India, a country with robust economic growth. The Minister also backed the possibility of a direct flight between Ulaanbaatar and New Delhi, which would boost tourism and people-to-people relations.

Minister Swaraj also spoke about bilateral cooperation at the regional and international level, acknowledging Mongolia’s role in ensuring stability in the Northeast Asian region. “I am confident that the social and economic development in Mongolia will contribute greatly to regional peace, security and economic development.” The Minister also talked about the educational exchange between the two countries, expressing India’s willingness to further expand this cooperation.
