Solid Waste Modernization Project to be implemented with USD16.7 million

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ During its meeting on April 10, Parliamentary Standing Committee on budget discussed a draft loan agreement between the Government of Mongolia and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on project ‘Ulaanbaatar Solid Waste Modernization Project’.

The project will be implemented with the funding equaled to USD 16.7 million, of which the EBRD will provide technical support of USD 2 million, non-refundable aid of USD 5 million and sovereign loan of USD 9.7 to the Government of Mongolia.

Minister of Energy Ts.Davaasuren mentioned in his presentation that the loan to be provided by EBRD will have 15 years of term with exemption from the repayment of principal loan for three years.

By implementing the project, solid waste treatment including waste collection, transportation, reproduction and waste destruction will be upgraded and capacity of dumping areas will be expanded by 4 tons. Moreover, the project is signficant to reduce amount of carbon dioxide in Ulaanbaatar by 18 tons, reproduce and reuse over 100 thousand tons of constructional waste.

The standing committee members unanimously agreed to discuss the draft loan agreement.
