6,310 birds of 41 species winter in Ulaanbaatar

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The capital city was home to 6,310 birds of 41 species in the 2017-2018 winter, reports the Environment Department of Ulaanbaatar.
The Environment Department in cooperation with the Mongolian Bird Conservation Center has organized the winter bird census for the third year.
The census was conducted in 37 locations in 7 districts of Ulaanbaatar by rangers, bird experts and bird-loving citizens and students.
The last winter’s number shows 32 percent increase than the previous years in terms of the species. However, the number of birds decreased by 33 percent.
It is believed that the appearance of birds not-seen-before in Ulaanbaatar is linked to the weather and the satisfactory growth of fruit trees and plants.
