Universities contribution to climate change mitigation discussed

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Within the framework of Partnership for Green Economy week, a joint seminar ‘Universities and Colleges' Contribution and Leadership in Climate Change Mitigation and Fulfillment of Sustainable Development Goals’ was co-organized by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports, the United Nations Partnership for Action on Green Economy and the Consortium of Mongolian Universities and Colleges on March 14.     

During the seminar, Vice-President of Alliance-European Network on Sustainable Development (COPERNICUS Alliance) Jana Dlouha presented sustainable development strategy of European universities, practice and lessons learned. Moreover the attendees discussed international practices on developing activity, learning environment and university campus in principle of being environmentally friendly, economically beneficial and having less waste. The American University of Central Asia shared its experience on how it changed its university campus to green and raised investment on it.

The seminar was attended by foreign representatives including Amsrei Horstbrink, United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Mongolia Officer, Carmela Senteno, United Nations Industrial Development Organization Officer, and Constant Van Aerschot, Executive Director of the Business Council for Sustainable Development Singapore.
