Studies for US FFPr program implementation in Mongolia ongoing

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Delegates of  the US Department of Agriculture and the Embassy of the USA are studying possibilities to implement the  US Food for Progress (FFPr) program in Mongolia.

The delegates arrived to Mongolia on March 6 and during ten days they will study current state of Mongolia's agricultural sector, further development tendency, cooperation and investment opportunities and meet  representatives of the governmental, non-governmental organizations and private sector. As a part of this work on March 7 the US delegation met with representatives of the National Livestock Genetics Center under the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry.

Director of the National Livestock Genetics Center, D.Tsolmon and Production and Technology Department chairman of the center, Ya.Oyunbileg introduced their activities and put their proposals to the delegation.

Program analyst of the USDA, Thomas Szymanski said that the FFPr program aims to improve agricultural productivity and to expand trade of agricultural products of the developing countries and if Mongolia becomes eligible for the program it can receive USD 15-20 million funding for 5 years. He also noted the possibility to supply the US high-yielding cattle breeds, while the Agricultural Attaché at U.S. Embassy, Gene Kim emphasized the possibility of the short and medium-term courses and scholarships for food and agriculture experts and researchers.

The US government will make official decision based on the collected data of the delegation.
