Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Mongolian National Climbing Federation (MNCF) will cooperate with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on improvement of professional skillis of Mongolian mountaineers.

MNCF President B.Tulga and NEMA Deputy Director, Brigadier General G.Ariunbuyan signed a memorandum of cooperation on February 23, initiating the bilateral cooperation.

The bilateral cooperation will aim to train expert-level mountaineering supervisors, instructors and rescuers through
establishment of a national mountain rescue operation system and a mountain rescue training system; to set up a joint mountain rescue team; exchange professional expertise; and establish a base for required training.

The 2018 NEMA action plan includes organizing search and rescue exercises on Otgontenger Mountain in Zavkhan aimag and the Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain Range in Bayan-Ulgii aimag in cooperation with professional associations.

Last year, 17 mountaineers lost their lives in an avalanche after climbing Otgontenger Mountain (4008m). The NEMA ran a search-and-rescue operation to find all bodies.
