MONTSAME renews cooperation with Cuban state news agency

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ MONTSAME news agency has renewed its cooperation agreement with Cuban state news agency Prensa Latina.
On February 23, MONTSAME Director-General B.Ganchimeg and Cuban Ambassador to Mongolia Raul Delgado Concepcion signed a memorandum of cooperation, which will pave the way to increase mutual promotion and intensify bilateral cooperation of the two countries through exchange of news.
“Although the Prensa Latina agency is 40 years younger than MONTSAME, we know of its regional and global presence,” remarked MONTSAME Director-General B.Ganchimeg, while emphasizing MONTSAME’s principal role in promotion of Mongolia abroad. MONTSAME national news agency will turn 100 in 2021.
“MONTSAME has a rich history of collaborating with international news agencies and media organizations. Therefore, I am confident that the cooperation between our two agencies will play an important role in strengthening of the people-to-people relations and mutual trust,” she noted.
For his part, Ambassador Concepcion expressed his delight at signing the memorandum, thus laying the foundation for bilateral media cooperation. “Cooperation between the Prensa Latina and the MONTSAME opens a door of information exchange for our two countries, creating the possibility of immediate transmission of accurate and credible news reports. Not only can we exchange reports on current affairs, we can also promote our culture and history,” said the Ambassador, acknowledging the necessity of information channels in broadening of the bilateral ties.
Ambassador Concepcion backed the possibility of mutual visits between the two agencies to boost cooperation, while informing Director-General B.Ganchimeg that he reads MONTSAME on daily basis to keep abreast of events happening within Mongolia. The Ambassador wished success to MONTSAME agency.
The signing of the memorandum was realized following a proposal regarding renewal of cooperation between the two agencies made by MONTSAME Director-General B.Ganchimeg in November, 2017.
MONTSAME and Prensa Latina first signed a cooperation agreement in 1970 in Ulaanbaatar. A memorandum of understanding was later signed in 2002. MONTSAME agency cooperates with about 20 news agencies and international media organizations around the world.
Mongolia and Cuba cooperate actively in agriculture, education and sports spheres. President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj paid an official visit to Cuba on September 15-18, 2016. Recently, Ya.Tumurbaatar, President of the National University of Mongolia visited the country.
The Ambassador informed that the attendance of Mongolia’s Health Minister at an upcoming international health conference to be hosted by Cuba is on agenda.
