State Servants Hospital performs its first arthroscopy

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The General Hospital for State Special Servants has performed its first arthroscopy on a 36-year-old athlete.
On February 6, the Hospital performed arthroscopy on a knee joint to treat a sports injury, using new equipment provided with a soft loan from the Government of Austria. Surgeon S.Batsukh from the National Trauma and Orthopaedic Research Hospital partook in the surgery within the two hospitals’ cooperation.
In Mongolia, the National Trauma and Orthopaedic Research Hospital specializes in this kind of surgery whereas some private hospitals conduct the surgery in cooperation with surgeons from the Republic of Korea.
The General Hospital for State Special Servants plans to specialize in treating sport injuries and furthermore, render 24-hour services for trauma.
Over a thousand Mongolians go abroad every year for arthroscopy, which costs about MNT 10 million each. However, the surgery costs much less in the home country with the possibility of covering 75 percent of the total cost from the Health Insurance Fund.
