Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On November 27, an introduction of a project ‘Talking hand-1’ that is a new training platform of sign language, was held at the Ministry of Education, Sports, Science and Culture (MESSC).

Mongolian Association of Teachers-Parents NGO has implemented the project with funding of Canada Fund for Local Initiatives. Also the MESSC, Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, school # 29 and  kindergarten #168 specialized for children with hearing disability and other related organizations joined forces in the project.

The ‘Talking hand-1’ project was worked out effectively for the use of children with hearing disability and their parents as well as of those who are interested in learning sign language. Within the project, 20 series of video lessons and exercise books have been produced. It will enable parents to learn primary sign language independently to help their children study.

As an experiment, trainings were conducted involving 20 parents and district specialists in charge of education, health and social protection of disabled children.

In Mongolia due to insufficiency of schools and pre-schools, educational service is inaccessible to nine out of ten children aged 0-18 with hearing disability. It ruins their opportunity to learn sign language and develop, cautioned the project team.
