Prime Minister meets US Ambassador upon completion of term

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On October 27, Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh received Jennifer Zimdahl Galt, Ambassador of the United States to Mongolia, on the occasion of completion of her mission here.
Having worked closely with the Ambassador as Deputy Prime Minister, Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh appreciated Ambassador Galt’s contribution to broadening bilateral relationship in many sectors.
Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh thanked the Ambassador for the leading role of the US in having the Extended Fund Facility program of the International Monetary Fund approved, reiterating his commitment to continued implementation of the 3-year program. The Prime Minister also said his Cabinet will focus on a number of issues including Mongolia’s food export and wastewater treatment plant in the next 2.5 years.
Ambassador Galt congratulated the Prime Minister on his appointment and handed over a letter from the US Secretary of State. “While the US and Mongolia mainly cooperated on strengthening democracy and human rights and freedom in the country, economic cooperation is in focus now,” said the Ambassador, expressing her view that continuation of the IMF program will help Mongolia revive its economy and see growth.
The Ambassador commended Mongolia’s contribution to peacekeeping operations and said the US will render assistance in capacity-building of Mongolian engineering companies and cooperate on Ulaanbaatar water supply system and building of a new wastewater treatment plant.
G.Zandanshatar, Head of the Cabinet Secretariat also met the Ambassador on the same day to exchange views on bilateral relationship as Mongolia and the US mark 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
As Chair of the Mongolia-US Parliamentary Group, G.Zandanshatar appreciated the news of the establishment of a US-Mongolia Friendship Group in Congress. Sides discussed issues of bilateral trade, investor protection and organizing consultative meeting of Mongolia-US Council on Trade and Investment.
