Euroasian beaver introduced to Ider River basin

Zavkhan /MONTSAME/ Zavkhan aimag conducted a biological resource study of rare and endangered species. The study revealed that red deer population is 1664 heads with distribution on territory of 10382.0 square.km and antelope population is 1513 heads on 11402.3 sq.km area.

In the case of Argali sheep, it numbers to 203 heads on 1316.6 sq.km area, ​​ibex to 604 heads on  2249.5 sq.km. There are also 60 heads of wild boar on 3856.8 sq.km, 5821 heads of Mongolian gazelles, 41 heads of black tailed gazelles, and 50 heads of Eurasian beavers.  

The endangered beaver is considered as a significant animal for ecosystem improvement and water level sustainability and therefore with aim to conserve beaver, increase its population and enhance biodiversity, a field survey on favorable relocation area for beavers was also conducted along the basins of Khojuuliin River of Tosontsengel soum, Tegshiin River in Ider soum, Bogd River and Chigestei River in Aldarkhaan soum, besides Ider River.

The survey result showed that the head area of Ider river, where three rivers intercross, covering 7.5 sq.km is suitable location for beaver and some 50 beavers have been introduced to the area of Ider River.  The Zavkhan aimag Citizens Representative Meeting hasn't given permission for hunting rare animals for the last two years.
