Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Polls closed in the second round of Mongolia’s presidential election at 10 PM, Friday evening.

As such, the General Election Commission’s release of the preliminary results has begun in a live broadcast. Manual recount also began at randomly chosen polling stations.

Speaker of Parliament and the Mongolian People’s Party candidate Enkhbold Miyegombo and former Member of Parliament and the Democratic Party candidate Battulga Khaltmaa stood in the runoff election.

Mongolia’s 1.9 million voters cast their votes at 1983 polling stations which engaged about 25 thousand civil servants. The ballot papers of overseas voters will be counted under the 1984th polling station.

In the June 26 poll, voters were marked with ink on their left index fingers and issued with a slip that verifies participation in the election. However, the General Election Commission decided not to issue the slips and archive them in the second poll, in order to bar possible attempts of vote buying. Voters were marked on their right index fingers today.
