‘Gobi Wolf’ international exercise is running for sixth time

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ ‘Gobi wolf’ international exercise training started today, May 1, in Umnugobi aimag, organized by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), USA Embassy in Mongolia and U.S. Army Pacific for the sixth time.

The training aims to improve the regional readiness in response to natural disasters, to ensure implementation of newly adopted law on Disaster prevention and to test management and organizational structure and tools for disaster response as well as to improve civil-military cooperation of the parties. “- ‘Gobi Wolf’ exercise is expanding year by year with increased number of international participants and it has become a 'Mongolian brand'-disaster response exercise. This year, the exercise is running under the theme ‘Let’s spread our knowledge and share experiences” said Brigade General T.Badral, NEMA Chairman.

Some 210 participants from governmental, non-governmental, municipal and military agencies from Mongolia, the U.S. and international relief agencies as well as from Japan, Nepal, South Korea, Turkey, Canada, Hungary and Bangladesh are  participating in the disaster response exercise. As the exercise is being held in the regional center of South Gobi, emergency commissions and local emergency services of Umnugobi, Dundgobi, Dornogobi, Gobi-Sumber, Bayankhongor and Uvurkhangai are also attending it.





Earthquake vibrations have increased in the Gobi region over the last years. For example, 0.7-3.8 magnitude scale vibrations were noticed 52 times in just 24 hours in Tsogttsetsii soum. And mine accidents get to occur more. Therefore the Gobi Wolf-2017 is to hold joint training and rescue exercises during mine accident caused by an earthquake or an animal infectious disease outbreak, including evacuation of Dalanzadgad and Tsogttsegtsii citizens and running field hospital. The exercise will run till May 05.
