Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A fashion show combining tradition with the contemporary designs dubbed as “UB Kimono” was held last Saturday, March 24, at the Japanese Embassy in Ulaanbaatar. The event was organized in honor of the 45th jubilee of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Japan.

The fashion show acted as an opening ceremony for the great anniversary in Mongolia. In Japan, the diplomatic anniversary celebrations were launched with “Swan Lake” ballet.

UB Kimono fashion show was divided into two sections, the first of which showed the audience four types of kimono: traditional, wedding ceremony, samurai and battlefield armors; and the second section was choreographed by Yavuutsagaan, a Mongolian designer who is well-known in Japan for her fashion line named “Yavuu”.

Staff of Japan’s diplomatic mission to Mongolia along with the Japanese citizens living in Mongolia participated in the show as models, making it possible to exhibit real Japanese emotions and styles on the runway.

Chief of the Division of Culture and Education of the Japanese Embassy, Mr. Yamamoto Keigo gave vivid and detailed explanations on special features of Japanese traditional costumes and their expressions.

The fashion show was also incorporated Japanese traditional dance by a Mongolian dancer Byambaa from the State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet.

The next day, a cultural day-event was organized, showcasing Japanese tea ceremony and an exhibition of kimono, its parts and samurai armors.
