Original copy of Constitution to be available for public display
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On January 9, for the 25th anniversary of adoption of the new democratic constitution of Mongolia, which is to be marked on January 13, the original copy of the Constitution was placed at the State History Museum.
As a tradition, the document, which is under the state protection, is displayed for the public for a week. The original copy of the Constitution is preserved in a working room of the President of Mongolia. This is the original copy of the Constitution on which newly elected heads of state place their hands while taking the oath of office.
During the ceremony, Secretary General of the Office of the State Great Khural Ts.Tsolmon gave opening remarks by saying "Numerous events are planned for the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of Mongolia will be marked on January 13, 2017. The original copy of the Constitution will be open for public display from January 13-20 at the museum in the State House with an aim to promote the significance and historical role of the Constitution to the people”.
The Constitution of Mongolia ratified on January 13, 1992 with a signature of the first president of Mongolia P.Ochirbat and went into force on February 12, 1992 and was amended twice in 1999 and 2001 respectively.
The democratic Constitution plays an important historical role for laying the foundation for a free market economy by protecting private property and reducing state participation in the economy and creating free competition.
It consists of six chapters and divided into 70 articles. Previous three Constitutions had been adopted in 1924, 1940 and 1960.
Present at the event were, the Chief of Staff of the President of Mongolia Ts.Bayarsaikhan, Secretary-general of the Parliament Secretariat Ts.Tsolmon, members of the Constitutional Court and other officials.
