Gangaamaa leaving for Antarctica to conquer Vinson Massif

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Mongolian mountaineer Gangaamaa Badamgarav announced she is ready to climb up to Vinson Massif (4,897 m above sea level) of Antarctica in pursue of her dream, at a press conference of Monday at the Central Palace of Culture. She is leaving Ulaanbaatar for Antarctica on December 13.

This is the last of Seven Summits of the world for B.Gangaamaa to conquer. At the press conference, she extended gratitude to all the sponsors, her friends and the Mongolian people for their consistent support which helped her through the difficult journey to roofs of all continents.

Total cost of the mountaineering travel amounted to USD 48,000, including USD 42,000 of fee to the expedition group and other costs. A donation campaign, which was announced in September, was a success, having involved public and private organizations of Mongolia and overseas.

Summer in Antarctica lasts between October and January, when mountaineers climb up to Vinson Massif. The temperatures can range from +10 to -30 Celsius. The temperature in the mountains can reach up to -35 Celsius. B.Gangaamaa is travelling to Antarctica with “7 Summits” expedition group of Russia.

B.Gangaamaa will become the ninth Mongolian to set foot on the “white continent”, and will own a record in the world mountaineering history, making it to the list of few who conquered all seven summits.
