Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ At its plenary meeting on Thursday, the parliamentary session discussed and then adopted a draft of the parliamentary resolution on fixing a size of expenses for State Great Khural (parliament) and aimags and city's Citizens Representative Khurals (Council) elections.

Accordingly, 16 billion 453 million 912 thousand and 800 Togrog will be spent, excluding some 220 million that are projected for operational works such as protecting voting places and delivering ballot papers.

During the discussion, some MPs asked how the money might be saved. A head of the General Election Commission (GEC) Ch.Sodnomtseren said this year's expenses have declined by 400 million against the 2012 elections.

This year’s features are that the electorate has gone up by 146 thousand, a number of election sections--by 186, and of staffers--by five thous., he went on. It means that a number of ballot papers will also rise, he added. Another difference is that parliament and Councils' elections will run simultaneously, he said. “However, the expenses for the 2016 elections are lower than those of the  previous ones. The parliamentary election of 2012 exploited 16.8 billion Togrog, while the elections of Citizens’ Representative Khurals--MNT 400 million, totaling MNT 17.3 billion,” the GEC head emphasized.

A size of election expense per capita in foreign countries is EUR 9-12, whereas in Mongolia--EUR 3-4. The 2016's elections expenses will stand at 7,270 Togrog per person, he said.
