Parliament dedicates moment of silence to S.Zorig

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Friday’s plenary meeting of the State Great Khural (parliament) started at 9 am by the Speaker's introducing an issues for the day, namely, the 11th conclusion of the Constitutional Court regarding the 7.1.12 of the Law on the State Great Khural, an amendment to the Law on Amnesty (in frames of the 25th anniversary of establishment of a permanent parliament of Mongolia), and a draft parliament resolution on adopting the fundamentals of the State Military Policy.

After the presentations of Standing committees’ conclusions on the first matter, Ts.Nyamdorj suggested setting up a working group to study it before discussing it at large. In regard to this, the  Speaker stated that the discussion is to be postponed until next Thursday.

Mentioning that the PM Ch.Saikhanbileg is making a statement on the winter preparation today, L.Tsog said the PM should also make a certain clarification about the so-called “Dubai issue” where the PM had signed the financial plan for commencing Oyu Tolgoi’s underground mine development. “The Premier has been avoiding talking about it”, he noted.

Mr Enkhbold asked the working group, reponsible for this issue, to clarify if it is possible to make two statements within one hour of press conference. To this Z.Enkhbold said that the MPs are supposed to pay tribute to the statue of S.Zorig, a pioneer of Mongolia’s democracy, and that the law enforcement still has not unraveled the truth behind this case.

After this parliament dedicated a moment of silence to late S.Zorig.

Zorig Sanjaasuren (20 April 1962 – 2 October 1998) was a prominent Mongolian politician and leader of the country's 1990 democratic revolution. He is called the "Golden Swallow of Democracy". His assassination remains unsolved. After his death, his sister S.Oyun entered politics and founded the Civic Will (Irgenii Zorig) Party.
