Mongolia and Colombia eye cooperation in mining sector
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Mongolian Minister of Mining R.Jigjid paid a working visit to Colombia on September 15-18. He met with the country’s ministers of mining and energy, and vice ministers of environment and sustainable development and of foreign affairs. The meetings mainly considered the illegal mining explorations, artisanal mines, mining companies’ relations with local people and investment and tax environments.
Statistical results from a research conducted on 3368 mines in Colombia, 65 percent of the mines were exploited illegally.
Minister R.Jigjid exchanged views with the Colombian Vice Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development P.V.Santos on the environmental impact reduction measures, introduction of more environmentally friendly new mining technologies, and issuance of minig permits.
At the meeting with the Vice FM of Colombia, Mr R.Jigjid pointed out the opportunities of Mongolian-Colombian cooperation in mining sphere.
Colombian side accepted the Mongolian minister’s official request to send teachers and specialists to Colombia for training and internships.
