Early Detection for Autism Spectrum Disorders to Be Improved

Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Onur Burak Dursun, Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Trabzon University of the Republic of Turkiye presented the results of his internship training for medical specialists at the National Center of Mental Health of Mongolia to Acting Minister of Health Munkhsaikhan Togtmol on June 13, 2025.
A working group to develop the Action Plan for the
Protection and Support for Mental Health of Children and Adolescents
/2026-2030/ has been established by the order of the Minister of Health, and
Professor Onur Burak Dursun is working as the Head of the working group.
Last April, the National Center of Mental Health of Mongolia
introduced the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition ( ADOS-2),
which is a standardized autism diagnosis and assessment tool to use the latest methods
and tools in diagnosis and assessment for autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and
expand its health services, laying the foundation for early detection of ASD.
Subsequently, work has begun to establish a center in
Erdenet city for early identification of developmental delays in children with ASD,
training specialists from health and educational institutions, and training
teachers. The center will also be established in some districts of the capital.
In this way, during routine 2-year-old vaccinations, a questionnaire will be
used to screen for potential ASD in children and suspected cases will be
confirmed with the Childhood Autism Rating Scale, Second Edition (CARS-2), and
comprehensive evaluation and treatment will be conducted using the ADOS-2.
