Spring sowing to be increased by 15-20 percent in regard with the pandemic

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Ch.Ulaan worked at a crop farming zone last weekend, getting acquainted with progress of spring sowing.
This year, 478 thousand hectares of areas are planned for cultivation, including 384.2 thousand hectares for grains of which 356.8 thousand hectares for wheat, 38.2 thousand hectares for fodder plants, 41 thousand hectares for oil plants, 14.9 thousand hectares for potatoes, 9.2 thousand hectares for vegetables and 7.3 thousand hectares for fruits and berries. However, in regard with special situation of the pandemic, the Government resolved to increase spring sowing by 15-20 percent.
As of today, spring cultivation is running at 73.4 percent across the country.
“The
Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry is working together with
farmers and vegetable growers to increase spring sowing by 15-20 percent in
regard with special situation of the pandemic. The Ministry will focus on
ensuring preparation of cultivation well, immediately organizing works to
provide necessary equipment and devices, seed, fuel, fertilizer and plant
protection products to farmers at preferential condition through Agriculture
Promotion Fund and providing soft loan of MNT 150 billion with 3-5 percent
interest rate to farmers through the Development Bank of Mongolia to make
supply of wheat, potatoes, vegetables, fodder and oil plants, fruits and
berries stable. We are grateful to our farmers and
vegetable growers, who are backing up the Government policy to create food
reserves and to increase sowing to ensure domestic need,” Minister Ch.Ulaan said.
